Donate to Stand Against MND in memory of Sam Perkins
Stand Against MND was inspired and founded by Sam Perkins in 2020 following his diagnosis of motor neurone disease (‘MND’) at the age of just 37.
Sam fought MND fiercely until his passing on 9 February 2025 and we are honoured to continue his legacy through his family, friends and of course his charity.
Stand Against MND (or ‘SAM’ for short) raises funds to support research into a cure for MND and palliative care provided by hospices.
Sam passionately believed that MND isn’t incurable - it is just underfunded.
We share that belief and are proud to have provided funding support to research projects at Nottingham University, Sheffield University and King’s College.
Throughout Sam’s personal MND journey, he received support from local hospices including physical therapy, weekly counselling - Sam even tasked one hospice with arranging a private tour of the JCB factory for his friends and family which proved to be a real memory maker!
Hospices are generally funded solely by raising their own funds with little government support. The palliative care, bereavement counselling and end of life provision are invaluable for MND warriors and their families - often helping to make the most difficult moments in life, and death, more comfortable and peaceful.
Our Sam was a true fighter and built SAM’s success through a range of wild and crazy challenges undertaken by himself and others who he corralled along the way, he influenced the media and those with a public platform (including celebrities, MP’s and even the Prime Minister himself) to speak out and join Sam in his stand against MND.
In some of the most adverse of circumstances, Sam showed incredible grit and determination to make positive change for the future, knowing he was unlikely to personally see any benefit.
We are pleased to have you join us in our Stand Against MND.
Sam's tells us his story in his own words. Visit our You Tube channel to watch our short series where Sam tells us how MND impacted his breathing, speaking, eating, mental health and mobility. All filmed in 2020.

Despite MND trying its best to slow Sam down - he never stopped. In 2021, Sam interviewed just a few of the people he had convinced to help him fundraise or fight against MND. Have a watch to see what he got up to! All filmed in 2021.
